Francia Raisa, 37, the actress best known for her role in “How I Met Your Father,” made international headlines back in 2017 when she donated a life-saving kidney to pop superstar Selena Gomez, who was battling lupus at the time.
But despite that monumental gift, their friendship has long been clouded in rumors, resentment, and radio silence. In a recent interview — reportedly recorded at a bookstore event— Raisa seemed to have had enough.
“Right now, what you are asking me is nonsense that has been in the media, and there are too many rumors,” she said bluntly, addressing the widespread belief that she’d been angry over Gomez’s post-transplant lifestyle choices. “I’ve never said anything.”
Not on the Guest List — But Still ‘Happy for Her’
Adding fuel to the fire? Raisa’s name was nowhere to be found on the guest list for Selena’s high-profile wedding to music producer Benny Blanco.
The lavish ceremony reportedly included the likes of Taylor Swift, Zoe Saldaña, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Ed Sheeran, and her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short. But Raisa? Not invited. Still, when asked about the omission, she took the high road — speaking in Spanish, no less.
“I know she’s getting married, and I’m very happy for her. And look… she has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her,” she added, according to translated subtitles. At the time of the interview, Gomez had not yet walked down the aisle.

Beyond the headlines and hearsay, Raisa also took the opportunity to reflect on the act that bound them forever — and perhaps, silently, broke them apart.
“From the beginning, the doctors told me, it’s a donation. If you are going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or somewhere else, you’re not going to call to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?'” She mentioned. “It’s a donation, and it’s something nice that I was able to do. I am grateful that I am alive, and I can say that I have saved a life.”

And what about the viral speculation that Raisa was furious with Gomez over her alleged smoking or poor health choices post-transplant?
“When that rumor came out that I had gotten angry or something like that because [Gomez] was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors,” she noted calmly. “No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it. One day, maybe we will address it.”
In a brief but eyebrow-raising aside, Raisa added that organ donation may be more difficult for women than men — but stopped short of giving a reason why.
